It works if the chain from crotch to the thigh band has the right length as is needed when you sit. The distance between the crotch and the thigh band is shorter when you stand as when you sit. If you sit you get a triangle where first side is from hip joint to the crotch. The second side is from crotch to thigh band and the third is from thigh band to the hip joint.
The additional chain between the thigh bands restrict how far you can spread your legs. Without it can be around 140° between the legs.

about the middle of the thighs, i think that fits with your calculation 😉

kind of, it's more like .... well i'll explain it this way. my father recently made the suggestion that i probably won't have to wear the thighbands and bra once i'm engaged, but he expects us to start wedding preparations promptly. i don't know exactly what he means by promptly. it will take some time, but ... yes, difficult to explain exactly

Sorry for the late reaction; I seem to have forgotten to react to this earlier.
It sounds strange to me that your father seems to try to stimulate you to get married as soon as possible: he must realize that by suggesting something like that, you will be tempted to get engaged as soon as you can, and then also 'rush' towards marriage.
I find that surprising because I got the impression your father liked having you around (or at least is afraid to lose you), and once you marry you'll move out. And if I were a parent, I would find it more important that a wedding would only happen if both are really feeling they are ready, so I would never do anything to rush that.
