gwen Wow, that's a pretty intense line of thinking. Given that belief I'm surprised that she decided to reproduce.
Well, one part of being a devoted Catholic is that you don't have a lot of choice. Birth control and abortion are both forbidden, and it's God's command to be fruitful and multiply.
My mother is a charismatic Catholic, which is like the most extreme parts of Catholicism mixed with the weirder parts of evanglicals. Lots of faith healing, laying on of hands, speaking in tongues, and the occasional strange dancing. It's pretty much "catholicism for people who think mainstream catholics are too bland."
They take both having children and parental responsibility very seriously. The whole point of reproducing is to add more Catholics to the world, and so they're really intense about teaching their kids to be devout Catholics as well. So it's very important to her both to have children and to make sure her kids are super-Catholic. Unfortunately, her pregnancy with me was very difficult and for a lot of medical reasons she doesn't talk about she could only have me, and I was a bit of a disappointment on the Catholic front.
