First of all, to say that my next message is preventive, for now the thread, although it has been displaced, remains within the planned theme and for now courtesy is total in disagreements, BUT, religion and politics can lead to bitter discussions, please, be very careful when expressing yourself.
That said, now, my opinion: I am a believer and religion helps me to transcend and in general I believe that Christianity does not teach bad values.
I am aware that the current Bible is a "selected" set of texts, some of which have been adulterated. I am also aware that religion, very often, has unduly served to perpetuate situations of abuse, but apart from the spiritual, it has also served to establish a code of coexistence at a time when it would otherwise be very difficult.
For example, you can try to convince people that killing is morally wrong, and some will listen to you, but if in a primitive society you say "God tells you not to kill" it is much more effective.
About female chastity, I do not use a belt in basis to a sacred mandate, but I have to admit that, in my opinion, maintain females chaste has saved a lot of fighting across story.
