It does not waste. It invests. It is like an hobby, as Angelina said, and what we do for ricreative purpose rarely is productive. Of course, there are less energy consuming hobbies, or healthier one like sports.
But I do not consider "wasted" those energies that we spend in "happyness".
Of course, it is much energy and time consuming in certain cases.
