Yes, of course, in my family, and a lot of families not only in the forum, the boyfriend must be accepted for parents.
But, later you can choose marry or not marry... I have a friend, not very close but friend at the end, who has a ex-boyfriend who is friend of her father. They did not have previous relationship....
I know is not very common but.... Your father has vote about your boyfriend, but you can not vote about his friends!

No, I think that approval of parents can be more or less mandatory, but in general, specially at my age and earlier, it is not restricted only to conservative families.

not as far as I know, but I assume that not everyone wants to talk about it openly. besides, it might depend on whether he/she is still a minor.

yes, in my case only very close friends know how it works (and only my best friend knows about the belt), the others found out at some point that i was in a relationship, but not any more.
