Ines It is true that for some reason it can be damaged, but it is very rare, almost impossible, that it is not damaged after sexual intercourse. I think he gave you a socially accepted answer there, but it's not medically accurate.
Thank you very much for clarifying it. You could be right that it is the more socially acceptable answer and maybe the one that could be safer for some girls with a similar background as I have.
Ines Yes, ir is their secondary function.
this somehow never crossed my mind before.
curious Here the medically correct facts about the hymen:
Thank you, that was really helpful for me.
Kaja And why you want to have your hymen intact?
You're absolutely correct, that not having sex means being a virgin and it's not necessary to have an intact hymen to be a virgin. I would certainly not tell anyone: you are not a virgin cause your hymen is damaged. And honestly, I don't judge other people by the number of sex partners in their lifes.
But and this is the big but: Many people give the hymen a very high importance and for them it is a sign for being a virgin, no matter if it is a valid point or not. And I would rather be in the situation to still have it intact.
Jen are gynecologists appointments common?
I usually go every year for a checkup, I am not perfectly sure if it is common for everyone, but for me it absolutely is and it's not something I am looking forward to.
