I have seen a Neosteel model with only holes in the waistband. There you insert a mushroom plug with holes for a snap lock. The chain to the thighband has a small metal plate with a hole that are used to attach to the waistband.
A better construction as there is no need for any D-rings that are constantly on the waistband.
