As far as German musical artists go, I did think of one more important in the past week. A true visionary. A symbol for the masses. The answer to all of our hopes and prayers.

For painters, probably Albrecht Dürer or Caspar David Friedrich. Musically, I am going with Beethoven, the least Austrian of the big classical names. Or maybe Bach.

David Hasselhoff, I wish we could claim that one though. He may be American, but his greatest contribution to musical history happened in Germany. Tearing down the Berlin wall like the Horns of Jericho...

youdontknowme I agree with you on Albrecht Dürer, the franconian, but musically seen I belive Amadeus Mozart, born in Salzburg, Bavaria, was better then Beethoven.
In Litherature I'd go with Goethe as the most famous german author.
