Max9 Adam and Eve are actually terms used in genetic history to trace back the paternal and maternal lines of every human. We inherit our Y chromosomes exclusively through the paternal line, our father, our father's father, our father's father's father and so on. Similarly, our mitochondria are inherited matrilinearly, from our mother's mother's ... mother. Both of those apparently converge onto one individual each a few hundred thousand years ago.
But we are related more closely than that. We each have two parents, four grandparents, eight great-grandparents and so on. Go back 30 generations or so, a mere thousand years, and that gets you to a billion ancestors. More than the world population at that time.
