That is why I said dictate. A bride may entrust her parents (or anyone else) with the wedding planning; and they will certainly have some form of influence on the wedding, be it as planners or as advisors on family and local traditions. But the people who ultimately decide on what the wedding ceremonies, and the marriage that hopefully results at the end of it, shall be like, are the bride and groom.

Just one nitpick here: I would contend that anyone old enough to consent to wearing a belt is too old for enforced curfews to be the expected norm. So whether that falls under privileges or blackmail would depend on how the parents would respond to an unbelted night out.

"Good girl" means a girl who came from an honest, religious family, who is modest and obedient to parental authority. The family knows her friends, dating is chaperoned, and when she's accompanied to the altar, and the authority on her passes on the husband. This is how it used to work when I was very young. Today it is almost unheard of, except in very small and rural communities, where for example women aren't allowed to eat with men and just serve food. happened 20 years ago.
I think that @Ines situation is similar in some ways. In this environment curfew is normal. Not even enforced. The boyfriend knows that the girl must come back home at a certain time.

WriterAlexis Well, this will be for sure a great crisis. But in the end a very stupid move. Sure, they will not be able to consume the marriage the same night, just the time to find a locksmith, and then the newlywed couple will close any relationship with their parents, or worse.

Dakshina Honestly I don’t think you should have agreed without knowing the full extent of what you’d receive.
More money and more time with friends could mean anything, ok so here’s $5 more a week and you can have another 20 minutes a week with them. For wearing thigh bands for any length of time that wouldn’t be worth it.
But as long as you feel good about it that’s what matters. Just know that not everyone and everything in life is how they seem and don’t always have your interest in mind.
