the problem is when the translator makes mistakes i can't correct them manually, in english i can still correct longer texts (that i write with google translator) manually, that's not possible here 😂

To all you non-English people who write so well here in our language: I am so impressed with your skills. I am ashamed to say that all my efforts to learn French and German in school were essentially for naught. I would be unable to effectively participate on this forum if it were in any other language ... unless I could find an effective language translator.

well, i don't know any other foreign languages besides english and even in english i have problems, but a girlfriend with american parents and the google translator helps 😉

if you are ever back in germany, you should still try to speak a few words, i think many will appreciate your efforts. 🙂

I tried learning German at University as part of a German club (an excuse to drink German wines as I recall 🤣 )and later in adult evening classes. Then it was for English people wanting to go to Germany on holiday - something I loved to do.

My problem would always be that I met some people, tried to speak my basic German and then they would come back at me so fast I was utterly lost and looked the fool I really am 😂 Typically my holidays wound up with me not speaking anything - on the principle that it might be better to remain silent and thought a fool, rather than to open my mouth and remove all doubt! 🤣

Yeah, we also usually speak a mix of German and Bavarian language when we try to speak German.
I speak Bavarian, German, French, Spanish and a few words Russian 😇 But my Spanidh is not ver, skilled anymore and my French also needs some training again.

i'm sorry, i needed the google translator for your little sentence too. it didn't seem that important to me at the time, because i was planning on dropping it after a year anyway, it honestly brings me no professional advantage or disadvantage at all

Vanessa Yes ... I mean ok ... you still have the advantage that you can act elitary in such a beautiful but arrogant way by showing off how educated you are... but I think it's really useful. For exampme on vacation. I can communicate in nearly every corner of the workd, even if people don't speak engish.

but i had a similar experience last year on fuerteventura. i spoke to a young waitress who didn't know english or german, very difficult. i was also surprised because she was 19 or 20 at the most.

that's interesting, i met a dutchman on holiday in spain a few years ago. he spoke to me in german and because it sounded so similar, i also thought at first that he was from bavaria. 😂
