I agree with this discussion, arousal is normal and punishment for arousal is, for the most part, a silly idea except perhaps as part of BDSM play where pretty much anything is normal.
However over the years I have had many requests to build belts or other devices that fall into one of these categories:-
1). Record episodes of arousal to be reviewed later.
2). Send a text message when arousal is detected.
3). Turn on a microphone when arousal is detected.
4). Punish arousal.
5). Detect orgasm.
6). Punish orgasm.
Most of the ideas suggested to me were either "I have no idea of the technical details just make it for cheap" or ideas that owe more to fantasy fiction than any reality I am familiiar with. Some of them with the minature electronics of today are probably buildable.

point 6 was supposed to be effectively prevented by the belt? were these requests made only for men's belts or also for women's belts?
Angelina No wearable belt is completely orgasm-proof, even if some come really damn close. A lot also depends on the wearer, some can orgasm from stimulation of other erogenous zones than their genitalia, some (particularly women) even from mental stimuli. I assume those are the orgasms that the belt is supposed to counteract by punishment; obviously any belt worth its salt will make it extremely difficult to orgasm from direct genital stimulation.
Angelina Mostly these were for female belts and mostly the suggested methods had not been thought about or they never would have been suggested to me. Orgasm for some women at least is possible from nipple stimulation, pain, and mental stimulation. Detecting these sorts of orgasm would be the purpose of 5 and 6.
Suggested methods of detection:-
1). Moisture sensor on the secondary shield. They forgot about urination.
2). Vaginal probe with moisture sensor. They forgot about periods and I would expect an unaroused vagina to still be moist enough to activate the probe.
3). Vaginal probe with pH sensor. Maybe but what is the normal vaginal pH and how if at all does it change with arousal?
4). Pulse Oximeter reading blood flow in the labia that might have worked but the equipment was bulky at the time with modern sensors MAYBE.
5). Some magic way of reading brain waves. You might be able to do it in a laboratory with an EEG machine but in the real world no chance.
6). Permanent anal plug with a pressure transducer that reads the characteristic muscle contractions of orgasm. Well, this is documented in several studies so the sensor would work but the impossibility of a permanent anal plug never crossed their mind.
The only possible idea was a male belt with a pressure sensor in the tube and at the time power consumption, cost and size made it impractical.
Taz I have to admit, I had my doubts at first that you were who you said you were. But I worked in customer service long enough to instantly recognize two things from the way you write: you have definitely worked with a lot of chastity belts professionally, and you have DEFINITELY dealt with a lot of impractical questions from the public about them!

Sounds like a setup for a scientific study. But I believe that would still be pretty prone to false positives (probably more error-prone than penis measurement in males, but less than the moisture sensors). Heck, even penis measurements can be triggered without a lot of sexual arousal, not even to mention being close to orgasm.

As for impractical implausible suggestions from the public you are correct it seems some people don't even give 5 seconds thought to a problem or believe I can do it by magic.

I wonder, what is your view on the devices being used outside of consensual couples' play? Most statements I have seen from manufacturers on that issue were rather negative, but several members here appear to be in an arrangement somewhere between being persuaded and pressured to wear those devices.

The non-consentual wearing of belts is a minefield. In most cases, I don't and never can know enough of the family dynamics to know if belts are being used non-consensually and if they are why. I generally work on the theory that the customer is sane and will use the belt in accordance with the laws of their country.
I knew of two cases of definitely non-consensual wearing of Tollyboy belts and I had no trouble with either case.
1). A young woman with mental health issues who was frequently hospitalised after forcing broken beer bottles into her vagina. She needed psychiatric care but didn't get it, her parents couldn't watch her 24/7 so, in the end, had her fitted with a belt. Not an ideal solution but it did prevent her from inflicting more horrific injuries on herself.
2). A father of Middle Eastern origin who decided to have his daughter belted instead of infibulated.. I'm sure she wasn't happy about the belt but considering the alternative, I thought it was the best outcome she was going to get.

Obviously there is only so much a manufacturer can know, especially in the sex equipment field where customer privacy is taken rather seriously, but I am sure some buyers volunteer way more information than you asked for. I know that My-Steel's old page had warnings on there telling people not to expose the belt to minors or use them on non-consenting wearers - something some buyers do seem to be ignoring, if the stories here are to be believed (and since they are familiar with the trials and tribulations of wearing chastity devices and the people with lock-it-up-and-throw-away-the-key fantasies tend to not last very long, some of those experiences are rather believable).

For me, the motivation is mainly that with an engineering background, one tends to be pretty familiar with the people who think that coming up with an idea is the hard part and realizing it is just applying steps that you learned somewhere. Talk about a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, it is not nice to be complicit in the subjugation of girls and young women, on the other hand, middle eastern infibulation typically involves some form of FGM and you would obviously want to do what is in your power to save at least that one victim from that.

i worry about that too, when we write about it we have to mark it clearly with the fantasy tag so that no one (especially parents) gets the wrong idea.
