Amira I think it will take generations till there's a bit more equality in these societies.
Thankyou for your previous post Amira. You explain things very well. :-)
Do you think things are slowly changing in your culture? And may I ask... In regards to Syria, do you think the situation there made things better or worse for the freedom of women?
I haven't been there for a long time, but I remember it becoming quite open in many ways, particularly in regards to women working and studying, music and fashion etc. One particular memory I have is of all the "cool" uni girls hanging out in internet cafes listening to Daft Punk. 🤫
But I recognise that this was a big city thing, and that it is still very conservative in many areas. Do you think the recent turmoil has advanced the equality of women, particularly amongst those that have left? Or have the patriarchal viewpoints been reinforced, and maybe even strengthened? Is enforced chastity a big thing? Do you know others that wear chastity belts?
So many questions! You don't have to answer if you don't want to, I'm just curious how much things may have changed.
ps I'm really happy that you have been able to move on, no one deserves to go through that. Congratulations on what you have been able to achieve so far, you are very articulate. :-)
