It is easy to learn, but you'd have to visual the pins that you're pushing upward. Look up diagrams and how the pins move. Know that most padlocks requires the key to be turned in a clockwise motion to open the lock. After you get used to feeling the pins move, you'll learn how much pressure you'd need to apply to the tension wrench and combine both together to push all pins and turn the lock open. Then, you'll need to practice on a padlock that is upside down since the one at your stomach is going to be upside down.
The 2 tools are tension wrench and rake/pick. The tension wrench is an L-shape tool used to turn the lock in the keyhole, while the pick/rake pushes the pins upward. The pick is used to push 1 pin at a time, though. The rake tool scraps all the pins and pushes them all upward. If you are starting out with lockpicking, put the tension wrench inside the keyhole and push the tension aside, enough to turn the lock a bit, then use the rake to push all the pins upward, then take out the rake and listen to the pins drop when you release the tension wrench. If you hear a few pins that's good, but if you hear alot of pins dropping, that's the correct way to open the lock.
To seriously pick the lock, use the tension wrench to push the keyhole with gentle force, then with the pick push the pin closest to your tension wrench and push it all the way upward, you'll notice it wouldn't come down because the cylinder is holding the pin upward. It'll fall when you release the tension wrench. If the pin falls slightly, that means the upper half of the pin is correctly picked, so you have 4-5 more pins to go and once all are upward, then you can turn the lock. The key have slopes, so pins can slide up and down those slopes, while the flat parts are where the pins rest. The different heights are for the various combinations, so no 2 locks are alike. When the bottom half of the pins rest on the key, it'll separate with the top half, which is separated by the space, and that's why you can't remove a key while the lock is turned, cuz the pins in the bottom half are blocked from going back up, cuz the tunnels the pins go up in are not there. Look up a diagram, it'll make sense, I can make a video later to show you what I mean, but I'll need a new youtube channel to stay anonymous here.
EDIT: Hope you don't get caught, but if you want to, you could practice while out alone, or indoors alone at home, don't risk ringing the bell if others are around. Practice and you'll get the hang of it quickly.
