Laura Makes sense for a virgin.

Traditionally, it was shameful for a woman to not be a virgin on her wedding day, and people tried to hide it, so it would make sense if women who were never married wore white to their wedding, even if they weren't virgins, and widows or divorced women wore the pink or red they were given at their first wedding. (You don't have to be a virgin to wear a white dress.)

...unless you want to advertise that kind of thing and risk a society that shames women who wear it. Then, maybe white for virgins, pink for married women, and red for "bad" women. (Because red is also the color of danger, a reference to The Scarlet Letter, and might imply she has "too much of what turns white into pink".)

Laura But mine is black

Let's see what a site has to say about black...

The color of power and sophistication. Black is an incredibly strong and intimidating color that exudes authority and makes us feel secure and protected. Often seen at formal and prestigious events, this mysterious marvel arouses and seduces our senses with its elegance and sexiness.

A very fitting color to secure and protect our mysterious site administrator. šŸ™‚

    Tim

It would be a good idea, yes.

Tim ...unless you want to advertise that kind of thing and risk a society that shames women who wear it. Then, maybe white for virgins, pink for married women, and red for "bad" women.

I don't think it would be very good to shame unmarried and not virgin women...

Tim A very fitting color to secure and protect our mysterious site administrator. šŸ™‚

When reading your quote,I thought about @Laura too;about exudes authority,it is the right color for the webmistress of the board!šŸ˜‰

Vanessa I don't think it would be very good to shame unmarried and not virgin women...

I don't either, but, when you're writing, it's good to put everything on the table. You never know when something might be useful.

Maybe you need an idea for a very unpleasant person to propose to make things worse.

Tim Then, maybe white for virgins, pink for married women, and red for "bad" women

      What about divorced?

I do not think the color should symbolize anything.
Instead, a selection according to preference from the user.

Tobbe I do not think the color should symbolize anything.

My parents had the same opinion

Tobbe I do not think the color should symbolize anything.
Instead, a selection according to preference from the user.

In the real world, I agree... especially for unwilling wearers who can benefit from feeling they still have some control over their lives. ...but, in fiction, it can be a useful thing to discuss.

          Christine What about divorced?

That depends. Why do they use different colors?

If they only announce innocence and virtuousness, then she would continue to wear what she wore while married unless she cheated the belt while unmarried.

If they announce marital status and the setting doesn't allow divorce, maybe widows wear black because it's also the color of mourning.

Maybe divorced women's belts get two-color waistbands and the part where the colors meet is hidden behind the steel. White on one edge for being unmarried, pink or red on the other edge for having sexual experience.

            Tim

Tim ..but, in fiction, it can be a useful thing to discuss.

When did this thread become fiction???

            • Tim replied to this.

Tobbe When did this thread become fiction???

It didn't "become fiction", but this message does invite talk about "what if...?" situations.

              Angelina I have an idea.

white for married women and pink for unmarried women

then everyone can see if there are chances and who has the key 😃

Tobbe I do not think the color should symbolize anything.

I'm for it, coz it shows girl's status instantly and she can't manipulate it.

                  Tim

ah ok, it's about fiction. it's sometimes difficult for me to keep it apart. i don't think it's a bad idea, something like this could be transferred to the real world. different colours as a symbol for different reasons why a girl/woman wears a belt šŸ™‚

                  Tim

i knew i had written about it before, but with so many posts nobody can remember what was written almost a year ago, and it was meant as a joke šŸ˜‚

Christine it shows girl's status instantly and she can't manipulate it.

The problem is if someone order a color and does not know that it means something she is not. Therefore, this idea must stay in fantasy stories.

Christine it shows girl's status instantly

Then white should be most popular here

Tobbe It should be conventional, like you wear a pink shirt šŸ˜‚

Laura Then white should be most popular here

with the idea i only meant women who are still in their belt after the wedding, here in the forum it is rather the minority šŸ˜‚

                      Christine

                      Good question.

Tim Maybe divorced women's belts get two-color waistbands and the part where the colors meet is hidden behind the steel. White on one edge for being unmarried, pink or red on the other edge for having sexual experience.

                      Not a bad idea.

                      Tobbe

Or manufacturers could explain what is the meaning of each color, when ordering a belt.

Tobbe The problem is if someone order a color and does not know that it means something she is not

She can tell it explicitly if asked.

Tobbe I’m rather surprised, since your usual response is to go for more control, not less. And color-coded messages locked in place seem pretty controlling!

                            Vanessa Not a bad idea.

but i have a problem with that because my waistband is pink, i would find white horrible and the colour is the only thing i like on my belt, please do not take that away as well, even if i like the idea in theory šŸ˜‚

                            Saintprudence

the problem could be that not everybody knows this massage and therefore there could be problems
