IMO this is a great idea especially if they can be matching his/hers belts from same maker and with interchangeable locks. And who gets the keys on the wedding can be the basis of the relaeionship afterwards. She or he: or maybe she gets his keys and he hers?

The main drawback will be the wedding. My partner's parents will insist upon some horrible massive overpriced nonsense, and they'll insist upon paying for it and organising it. Neither of us wants that, and it's so much easier to just not bother.

Maybe you could just get married quietly in a Registry office and say nothing about it beforehand except to a bridesmaid or best man who will hold the keys meanwhile?

We could, although legally that wouldn't make any difference to us.

Live music, heavy metal cover bands she had seen in college.
Cake, done. Sheet cake from a bakery.
And enough alcohol to float a battleship. Where it got really fun was she made it a cosplay wedding. In the end all her mom had to say was good job, next time I’ll be more specific. Hopefully there won’t be a next time

Did the mother know were the couple belted?
Greatcornbow They weren’t. Just a friend that got around those high expectations of her mom in a very creative way. Which turned into one interesting party, they did not get the security deposit back
