In this case though Jane was already out of control and her mother should have taken a firmer stance with her. Forced wearing won't work, as we have discussed exhaustively here, but she could have been more firm in her desire to have Jane wear it, like withholding her car, allowance, etc. if she didn't.

Kaja If one person is in a position of authority over the other, pressuring the weaker person to comply with the stronger person's wishes becomes so easy that a lot of places have a much higher burden of proof that something was consensual. With relations between equals the burden is usually on the side that is trying to prove non-consent.

Kaja They had sex in his car on school property. He is a teacher and teachers are not supposed to have sex with students. Had they done this somewhere else they would not have been caught and it would not have been as big of a deal.

Laura Pretty sure most colleges, let alone high schools, will fire a teacher for marrying a student. Sometimes even former students might be off limits.

Reading through this thread I’ll just give my two cents. A teacher at any level will be terminated for having a sexual relationship with a student of any age.
As for the suspension, most schools will suspend students for engaging in sexual behavior on school grounds. However, in a situation like this it’s hard to believe. The public backlash if Jane or Monica went to the media would be severe. And lawyers would be lining up to take the case against the school board. So if it’s true there’s a lot more to it then @Jenna knows.
And lastly monica needs to give it up with the belt. Jane doesn’t want it, that’s the end of it. Jane’s 18 so Monica is free to kick her out if that’s how she feels but the belt needs to be dropped from the conversation permanently

my brief opinion on this

of course the teacher will be fired, he abused his position of power over a student. A teacher is not allowed to have sex with students, not even with adults. It is not legally punishable, but the school does not have to accept it and will not do so. of course the school can also take all the consequences it can against Jane, as long as there is a possibility that she can still graduate from school (which is obviously the case)

In my opinion, the chastity belt is completely wrong here. It makes the problems even bigger. Monica and Jane don't trust each other and a girl in the belt has to trust the key holder, otherwise it won't work. In my opinion, therapy would be the best approach here.

Angelina Totally agree with you. The entire ordeal is unfortunate. Counseling, assuming they can find a good one, is the surest pathway to a more harmonious relationship. I understand Monica wanting to use the belt, to avoid more of these situations, but like everyone else here I am dubious of a successful outcome.
