Well yes, I do like to watch movies without localisation (not only English ones) it's almost the most important thing you can do.
Especially for someone like that is not good at languages (as in certified by serious psychological tests, @Angelina that might also answer your question why I'm not a word smith even as a native speaker.)
But as mentioned our schools went a bit overboard here, quite a bit of the better schools are at least "dual language" (meaning part of the teaching for regular subjects is in English, our kids had the privilege to enjoy that from age 6, I won't count the English in Kindergarten stuff here) to so called bilingual schools where English & German are equal official languages, and pupils are allowed to answer all (non-language class) exams in either language.
And I personally a bit isolated on that, I've been required to speak on-demand or even full time English for work purposes for decades now.
(Most companies in my wild consulting days had English as fallback language, basically if somebody walked into the room that did not speak German, the cultural norm was to switch to English, often mid-sentence. Only in very few cases, in direct view of the Rhine, French was the fallback language used.)
