I have something off-topic about which I am curious and this forum is a good place to ask as we have people from many countries. Today, this is Friday 11/26, is a day known as Black Friday in the US. The fourth Thursday in November each year is the national Thanksgiving holiday. That was yesterday. Many people do not work today, thus giving them a 4 day weekend. So for many decades it has become traditional for most stores to open early and offer huge bargains to try to kick off the Christmas shopping season. People line up while it is still dark to be first in line when stores open to grab bargain things, often big things like TVs and computers. It is called black friday because in theory on this day stores sell enough so they make a profit for the year, often called being in the black as opposed to being in the red, or losing money.
So my question is do other countries have something similar? If so is it the same day as in the US? Perhaps not since I think this is only a good day since it follows Thanksgiving and folks are off work and ready to shop.
