Valadar unless you do a PCI-pass through which requires two graphics card

Of course you do. Just connect another one through a riser

Valadar so how is your area/life during this lockdown I take it you can still work?

I'm freelancer. I don't got to work anyway. So almost no change for me. But parents stay at home πŸ˜‚

Valadar You live in NYC right?

Yes. NYC

Laura Of course you do. Just connect another one through a riser

Lol I was actually surprised you responded to that. Unfortunately I can't due to my case/computer chassis limitations and as said I can do nothing during this lockdown lol someone I know can't even buy a battery for their phone it's ludicrous lol

Laura I'm freelancer. I don't got to work anyway.

Very fortunate, so the only "lockdown" (I mean no offense) you experience is what you are already used to, &is the main focal point of this forum lol.

I fortunately work from home myself due to my family's business which isn't in I.T but requires the service of an I.T administrator but unfortunately the lockdown has hit the business hard and currently Im not earning a salary until the business can function again, that's why I can say I know how hard this lockdown is affecting the Caucasian businesses in South Africa especially the small&medium sized ones.

Laura A member of my family went to the USA a year or so ago specifically NYC&said that NYC people don't have any trash bins on the roads due to the events of 9/11. Is this true?

Valadar Unfortunately I can't due to my case/computer chassis limitations

You can place a second video card outside your case. That's the beauty of risers

Valadar so the only "lockdown" (I mean no offense) you experience is what you are already used to, &is the main focal point of this forum lol.

I guess it must be called "lockup" πŸ˜‚

Valadar aid that NYC people don't have any trash bins on the roads due to the events of 9/11. Is this true?

Trash bins or trash cans? Of course, there are a lot of trash cans on the streets. If you are talking about trash bins, e.g. dumpsters, well, I never paid attention to it πŸ˜‚

Laura I guess it must be called "lockup" πŸ˜‚

I guess so but you and the other ladies are used to it I mean it is your daily life and reality not like if it was used as playthings in a sexual fantasy lol Im a bit of a shy/private person that's why I don't comment too much on chastity belt issues, as like Rick I do believe the main purpose of this forum should be about allowing you ladies to discuss your issues&challenges supporting one another (and if us guys can add to the support)

If money were as plentiful as grass I would say the majority African woman here in SA need to be belted to prevent this ridiculous overpopulation here. As its in the African culture to on average have 7 to 10 children or more(as the believe the more children they have the more they will be looked after when they are older) and many wives/girlfriends that's why Africa will never progress its impossible.

            Laura

It seems all around the world,"wild" animals tend to come in the towns freely,as there is way less people in the streets,on the beachs,etc...

Laura That's probably more about @Vanessa

Right.Unlike you,network,servers,etc... are only a part of my job.Mine is more about computer itself. But,for now,I do only a bit of work from home,as long as the pandemic don't reduce...

            Valadar

You can make your PC have two OS installed and choose on which one to boot.I keep the Windows update on(but delayed,to avoid new bugs introduced by updates before Microsoft fix these),but I know there is ways to disable it completely.

Vanessa PC have two OS installed

Hi Vanessa its kind of you to contribute, yes I know about dual booting thanks my pc actually runs Windows 7 and Zorin OS I just use Windows less and less these days as my knowledge of how to use Linux grows...there is just so much more you can do on it than Windows... much much more freedom.

Vanessa You can make your PC have two OS installed and choose on which one to boot

It means you have to reboot your box every time you need something in Window, it means you have to close and restart bunch of apps later on. Pretty inconvenient

25 posts were split from Virus .

BikelockFugitive Hi thanks for wanting to assist no I can't as my case doesn't allow two graphics cards to be put in... otherwise I would create a PCI pass through.

As I said to @Laura Im enjoying using Linux so far I have got StarCraft 2 and Anno 1404 to work through Wine with great performance.

Laura the Ubuntu guy is also from South Africa

Mark Shuttleworth yes is from South Africa though I don't like that distribution directly myself...I prefer Zorin 15 OS and MX Linux also interested in trying Manjaro OS sometime too but Zorin OS 15.

Fun fact related to famous people from South Africa did you know J.R.R Tolkien was born in South Africa?

Valadar I prefer Zorin 15 OS and MX Linux also interested in trying Manjaro OS sometime too but Zorin OS 15.

Think what you might have on a VPS. Usually Ubuntu, Debian and CentOS. IMO, no worth to play with anything else

                      Laura

Right,it is not the best, but help to make some software run well easily.

                      Laura Usually Ubuntu, Debian

Hi thanks for the advice Laura, Zorin OS 15 is based off ubuntu 18.04 LTS (uses it as its base) it just offers a better UI than default ubuntu, MX Linux Is based off Debian 10 Buster (uses it as its base)

                      4 days later

Hi, everyone. I have a Dell R900 server sitting unused on my bedroom floor. I had wanted to configure this machine as a multi-function video server.

Is Qubes a good operating system to put on a server, or is it intended only for workstations?

Is Qubes considered a variant of Linux?

I purchased two identical HDMI input/output cards. I hope to eventually have four of these.

I also have a Ceton cable-TV tuner card, which probably means nothing to those of you in Europe, because I believe it only works with the cable-TV technical standard we use in North America. I don’t think they ever came out with Euro-spec versions of their products.

Last time I looked, there was a Linux driver available somewhere for the Ceton, though it’s not officially supported by the company.

I purchased a 64GB memory upgrade for the machine, because it only came to me with 8GB.

And yes, I’m aware that there may be HDCP issues that will have to be dealt with down the road, but those are not my main concern at the moment.

My technical skills are such that I can understand and modify code written in machine language.

I actually did work at several jobs in the computer programming and operations area back in the 1980s, back in the punched-cards-and-magnetic-tape era of computing. I feel like a thawed-out,frozen caveman.
