if that would happen, it would be very uncomfortable, but mostly only the bags would be checked and if they don't find anything they mostly think it is a fault of the security system. i usually wear a chain to have an excuse in case of emergency 🙂

My class once visited the federal parliament once. I didn't join the trip because of this.

I can very much agree with that. Happened to me once, was very embarrassing because I had to undress in front of the security people and explain to them what set off the alarm.

your parents could have removed the cage before the security check and put it back on again afterwards

that's the way my father did it.

Angelina They saw it, I explained to them, they didn't believed me but let me go anyways because the cage wasn't any apparent thread to the security of the airport. For the flight back home, my parents took off the cage and after that, they started using another cage. The "travel cage" as I call is locked with a normal padlock instead of an integrated lock, that way the metal padlock can be swapped with a plastic single-use seal so the cage doesn't have any metal part that could set off the detector.
