I recommend from Allan and Barbara Pease 'Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps:.
They describe perfectly the difference for average man and women and that it does not autumatically apply to the individual.

Rina It really hurts people like myself and my partner a lot.

i agree, it's definitely a blow for people like you. but i see it the same way, defining typical female or male hobbies is social nonsense. i like shopping, but i also like watching sports on tv. everyone should do what he/she likes 🙂

youdontknowme I chalk it up to the fact that boys might enter the discipline because that is something a guy might do, but any girls that sign up do so because they are really passionate about the subject matter.

i have the same feeling, it will be because the boys think "a real man must do this", while the girls do it only out of interest, of course it can also be the other way round.

Kaja The same like that girl are better for lenguages and boys for science or technic.
    No, never.

This is a GENERAL BUT NOT UNIVERSAL true.
Obviously there are several exceptions, but is evident that there are massive and very general bias between sexes.
For example, in my campus, nursery or medicine schools are full of girls, and chemistry is not.

cantsolvethecaptcha Disclaimer: Men and women being different is not by any means a value judgement of the sexes. I just believe that there is a natural, fundamental difference in men and women which in general/on average shows itself in different behaviour. Both are equally good/bad/valuable!

    Agree.

cantsolvethecaptcha I think we a straying from the topic at hand! (Caution! @Ines incoming)

    Worse... She has arrived... 😂

cantsolvethecaptcha However I think that those so called „social constructs“ are just an expression of fundamental evolutionary biology and psychology.

Totally agree. They are refined biology.

Ines For example, in my campus, nursery or medicine schools are full of girls, and chemistry is not.

this can also have something to do with the education of the parents. some parents do not want their children to learn certain professions or do certain courses of study because they see it as typically female or male.

:Ines Loads of ladies do chemistry. I done chemistry at university nearly 1/3 of the class was women.

        Philip

Of course, but 33% vs 66%, I have friends in chemistry, even in physics science are less girls.
At least here, most of the girls in the branch of science studies are in the biosanitary.
Even those who do robotics or engineering degrees concentrate on bio robotics or bioengineering.
However, there are always girls and female teachers in all degrees.

Ines I suppose it would be nice if it was more 50:50 but not many folk like chemistry.

Where i work there is way more women than men I would say easily 3/4 are women.

            Philip

Well, as a woman, I must say that I do not care much.
Here the politicians worry about things like "that few women study naval engineering" and yet they are not worried "that few boys study psychology, nursing or early childhood education teacher".
I would be angry that a girl could not be, for example, a military pilot, but that, being able to do it, few girls want to do it worries me 0.
I think that the important thing is that each one chooses what they like and there, in general, there are certain differences, but, I repeat, having freedom as there is, I am not worried.

A lot of gender differences in some scientific disciplines is also the lack of female role models. Decades ago, womem did not have the choice, and the effects of that are still felt today, among with maybe a sense of "she's a woman, she cannot do that" prejudice among hiring managers, and similar prejudices from educators. Encouraging girls to take a look at male-majority professions is not about interfering with their choices, but about finding a new equilibrium that reflects actual natural differences moreso than systemic biases, so a 90-10 distribution might turn into a 70-30 one or something along those lines.

              youdontknowme
I disagree, I have also heard that many times, but I have always believed that it is not true.
Nor were there references in medicine, biology, veterinary science or architecture and these are fields in which women have displaced men.
The land where we have been interested in entering, we have entered.

Barbara , they wouldn't have needed to do it twice.

Surely it would not be necessary to do it twice... because the girls would leave us alone after that! 😅

youdontknowme Encouraging girls to take a look at male-majority professions is not about interfering with their choices, but about finding a new equilibrium that reflects actual natural differences

the question is whether these differences have to be abolished. in this day and age, a woman can become anything she wants. i think it's more important to tell women that they should let themselves be pressed into a profession because of social schemes. if afterwards the weight is still 90 to 10 for the men, then it has happened naturally.

that's why i'm also against this eternal egalitarianism. i want the best to get the best posts, regardless of whether it's a man or a woman.

Angelina if afterwards the weight is still 90 to 10 for the men, then it has happened naturally.

                Agree.
