I’ve noticed that the newer “smart” thermostats, in addition to having Wi-Fi, tend to have parental control functions built right in.

One model allows for parents to limit adjustment to a predefined range. Another model allows you to lock out the physical control panel entirely, and control the unit exclusively from a smartphone app.

Having parental control functions built right in makes it less necessary to put a plastic or metal enclosure around the unit, unless you need to protect the thermostat from physical damage, as for example in a gymnasium.

I believe there is little or no risk that Jenna would report me to her supervisor or to HR. The chances of that are so small as to be effectively zero.

And, if I were fired, I believe I could easily find similar employment elsewhere.

I believe there is little risk of anything bad happening to the keys as long as I’m there to keep an eye on things.

I believe it WOULD be somewhat high-risk to store the keys at work overnight, or at anytime when I’m not there.

first of all i would see it as a risk to leave the key at work, it can be very dangerous. But I see another risk. what if this jenna doesn't understand the lifestyle, you will surely have to explain to her what the keys are for. i would see that as a risk, i.e. that she could come out or reject you

Another risk is that all one need do is read the manufacturers name off the lock box and look on Amazon where it is quite likely one can buy the same box and it will come with the same keys. They have very simple locks. I bought a Taymac and can now control the heat/cool in the workout room we use for track practice.

The problem here would be that someone could steal your keys easily, even if they did not know what they were for.

Please consider that your colleague could be put in a position of legal liability, just to satisfy your kink. It is one thing, if a consenting partner or parent takes on that liability, but a co-worker, that could be problematic.

Also if you get harmed during your experiment and it turns out that the keys were locked in a compartment inside your employers office, that could be damaging for the reputation of that company and could make you legally liable.

It of course depends on your local laws, but I assume most jurisdictions have similar laws in that regard!

Considering that kink seems to be a major motivator for your own lockups, I would argue that what you are proposing amounts to involving a person in your sexual fantasies without her consent. I would not consider that appropriate behavior, in fact I would be hard-pressed to consider putting control of your genitals into the hands of a non-consenting stranger acceptable even without the sexual motivation.

something else. don't you think it would be better not to mix such private interests with your job? it's just a thought, but i would always try to separate work and private life, such sensitive things simply don't belong in the daily work routine.
