Do you know what hours for example doctors on duty work? The system that is trying to save money on the back of junior doctors is kind of forcing them to work these excessive hours, so no, it cannot easily avoided.

It is really all about money. A breathalizer in every car is pretty useless as long as you do not prevent another person to "unlock" the car. Imagine a father having a few beer during a bbq in the garden with friends. Come early evening, the son has to go for football practice and so the father would order him to unlock the car for him, so he can drive the son to his training.
You cannot solve a problem that is founded in the society (general availability and acceptance of alcohol) with technical means, I am afraid.

curious The ignition interlock on my friends car had a sensor to detect whether it was her blowing in it. She had to hum and I guess the sound had to match what was recorded in it. Not sure how well that worked but I know she frequently had to make multiple tries to pass the test.

When fitted by court order after DUI that might work, but you cannot customise a car to fit one driver only from the factory if you want to sell it.
Breathalizers as a standard in every car is just not gonna happen.

What really needs to be invented is a self locking CB coupled with an alcohol and drug sensor. 🤣🤣🤣

        curious

yes, i understand that it is not that easy. i think the combination of alcohol and car is the absolute horror, we have to find something against it.

and the belt is only opened if the person has not consumed anything to protect them from making rash sexual decisions. 😂

Angelina Add a breathalyzer on top so the potential partner has to be sober as well. Hygiene unlocks would have to be handled separately of course, but given that full belt removal would also limit the ability to ensure proper re-locking (so the alco-belt would probably just remove the shield and keep the waistband in place), you would need a separate mechanism for removing the belt anyway.

Of course blowing the breathalyzer would look suggestive, but considering the use case, that is probably not a big worry.

The solution is not one of technology but of changing the society towards not accepting the use of alcohol as 'normal'.
A strict limit of 0.01% when driving would be a first step so people no longer think that one glass of Wi e or beer for dinner and driving home afterwards is fine.
Countries that have zero alcohol when driving laws actually have less alcohol related accidents.
And when you get used to not to drink alcohol with your lunch or dinner, this will slowly change the attitude towards alcohol. A lengthy process, but worth following.

                youdontknowme

the idea is not bad and since we are writing about it i have to say one thing. a good friend of mine got drunk several times when she was 15/16 and got into trouble with her parents. as a result she always had to take an alcohol test when she came back. 😂

                curious

here i disagree, i don't want to ban alcohol. in small quantities it is a cultural good and should stay that way. i think there is also good alcohol that you can drink because of the taste. i only speak out against the combination of alcohol and car.

Angelina Jay at Fancy Steel could probably make such a belt. See his female advanced belt.

                    so a belt with a built-in breathalyser ?

                    You misunderstood me.
The strict 0.01% should of course apply to driving.
It is important that people no longer have the attitude that 1 glass is fine because they are still under the legal limit and permitted to drive.
If driving, absolutely no alcohol, that should be the law and if this over time becomes normal, you can still have your glass of wine when at home, but not when you go out and plan on driving home.

Angelina Just for humor's sake, I am now imagining the breathalizer on a male belt. To have sex with a guy in a belt like that, his partner would need to blow him first.

Either way, a sobriety test for sex seems like it would cut down on things like unwanted pregnancies a lot, but it would probably require widespread chastity belting to be enforcable, and if you are already belting people you are probably also cutting down on "Verkehrsunfälle" in other ways already. But the slogans for promoting those devices in Germany pretty much write themselves, with the double meaning of Verkehr.

                        curious

then we are of the same opinion, as i already said i am absolutely against the combination of alcohol and driving, but i don't want a ban on alcohol in general.

now i have pictures in my head again 😂
