Tasha Not quite sure if you understood the term "booting of a external device".

You insert an external drive and select it by hitting some button during start up. That's how I understand it.

Tasha I didn't tell them ofcourse but I'm sure they know that I watched porn. I was always careful (and still am when I read light erotica) to make sure to not leave traces behind.

Another reason to use parental controls.

Tasha Is the parental control on the windows operating system or on a bios level?

I think it's part of windows, but the ways around are blocked in bios.
And the restrictions are in place, regardless what network I use.

Tasha Don't know why some parent would go that far to control their child's device

To make sure, that there is no way around. My mom is of this kind.

Milord An adult can just buy another device.

Living in parents' home? 😃

Tasha for using this fourm yes, I use a phone.

But it's less convenient than from the desktop you use anyway

Renita yes, of course. Living in parent home prevents someone to own property? Honestly, we are going weirder and weirder

Laura I guess. When I hop on thr desktop I go into work mode. When I hop off I try to not think about it. But it doesn't work tbh, I love what I do, so I end up brainstorming on my phone. Workaholic 🤣

Laura I can't.. if more rhan 10 tabs are open I get overwhelmed. I like to organise them, group them and even name them. It does take a bit of time but I find it useful for me. I also set up profiles on my browser to make sure I separate things well.

As for windows I put one window in one workspace.

Tasha why can't I buy my own devices and use them ?

You can, but you might be required to install parental controls on any new device.

Laura But it's less convenient than from the desktop you use anyway

Because you can use your phone from anywhere and not just from your workplace.

Milord Living in parent home prevents someone to own property?

Property like real estate? I think it's different topic.
If you are talking about stuff, you can't hide it too long.

Renita You can, but you might be required to install parental controls on any new device.

"Install parental control on the phone you bought with your own money"
              "no"

              So?

Renita Property like real estate? I think it's different topic.
If you are talking about stuff, you can't hide it too long.

But I really have to believe that a 40+ woman isn't, in the rare case she have to, able to hide something to her mother? Something as easy as a phone?

Tasha if more rhan 10 tabs are open I get overwhelmed.

Not 10 browser tabs, most of windows are terminals to servers, including this one

Renita Because you can use your phone from anywhere and not just from your workplace

And that's exactly what I try to avoid

Milord But I really have to believe that a 40+ woman isn't, in the rare case she have to, able to hide something to her mother? Something as easy as a phone?

When living in the same house and the mother doesn't believe in the daughter's right to privacy? I think it would be possible but extremely difficult.
Of course, if you are in this situation, you have either failed to establish what I would consider the bare minimum healthy boundaries for a parent/adult child relationship or you have opted into a non-standard parent/adult child relationship like Renita has. Also, my understanding is that she doesn't live with her mother, so it would probably be much easier for her to hide a device from her mother if she were so inclined than in the hypothetical we are talking about.

Regardless, we should probably get back on topic or move this discussion to the thread on parental controls, since it isn't really relevant to @Tasha

                  Laura

                  No tinted windows?

New Jersey, Vermont, and New Hampshire also do not allow any amount of window tint.

Renita If you are talking about stuff, you can't hide it too long.

it is not about hiding, it is about setting boundaries and declaring your own stuff off-limits to them. Facilitated by your own security setup, if necessary.

Milord able to hide something to her mother? Something as easy as a phone?

It's not my case. At least because I live in another place.

pestulens Also, my understanding is that she doesn't live with her mother, so it would probably be much easier for her to hide a device from her mother if she were so inclined than in the hypothetical we are talking about.

I don't need to hide it.

youdontknowme it is about setting boundaries and declaring your own stuff off-limits to them

If you let your parents put on a chastity belt, you can't talk about setting boundaries anymore.

Renita If you let your parents put on a chastity belt, you can't talk about setting boundaries anymore.

There is some truth to that, but it kinda proves some of the points @Milord has been making.

                        youdontknowme "unability to set boundaries"
I will add to my list of what's wrong with parental belting

Renita If you let your parents put on a chastity belt, you can't talk about setting boundaries anymore.

You don't have to give up control over everything in life to your parents

Renita If you let your parents put on a chastity belt, you can't talk about setting boundaries anymore.

It is only on you to what you agree. In the end you can set boundaries for every topic if you want it. The open question is if your really want it?

Tasha You don't have to give up control over everything in life to your parents

That's why I'm asking how about you and relationships in your family.

Renita If you let your parents put on a chastity belt, you can't talk about setting boundaries anymore.

well, but parental control on a mobile phone/laptop is something completely different. an adult can buy their own mobile phone at any time and do whatever they want with it, their parents don't even have to know about it. @Tasha has her own business and can certainly always buy another mobile phone financially if her parents come up with such ideas, but go to the locksmith and ask for a spare key for your chastity belt ...
