For me is different, even in your cases that I know that the access to the key would not be for free, I prefer do not have any chance of get my keys.
I think I do not like tiranissed, but for me is very necessary psicologically that my part is the padlock, and my parents part the key.
For me the system for emergencies in my home is the best for me.

              In my case, my mother has keys, and spare keys are in a safe box in my parents study.

                      Exactly same my parents safe. And it is good way, it does not permit us any access to key, but if there is a true emergency, even without our parents we could manage it.

                                                    In our family my father has the main key. Spare keys are in a save, my brother knows the combination for emergencys.

                                                    My mother, sister and I don't have any access on our own.
