These are the two letters to the Dear Abby advice column that started it all for me.

I was very afraid that my parents would see this and get a belt for me, though part of me was secretly hoping that they would.

For a brief moment in time it seemed that chastity belts were on the verge of becoming the “next big thing”, at least in the fevered imagination of this 12-year old. I was half expecting someone else to write a follow-up letter making an impassioned case for teenage sexual freedom (“Who ever gave these parents the right to snap these belts on their teenage sons and daughters? Who the hell do they think they are?”)

I’ve never quite understood why Dear Abby treated the letter from “L.N.” as a joke. I never thought it was fake.

There was also a belated follow-up letter (January 1973?) from a gentleman who didn’t believe that either of the two original letters were real.

      If the letter from “L.N.” is to be believed, she has an arrangement with her parents whereby she can ask for the key whenever she has to use the bathroom, and return the key to her parents when she is done.

        It is a reason that make it doubtful,in my opinion.Maybe it was different at this time,but modern chastity belts are made to make going to the toilet possible(for urinating and defecating)

        Anyway,it is interesting there was already some people using it/fantasizing on it(depending if the letters are true or false) decades ago!

                Angelina ummmmm, I don't think that's true. I don't think chastity belts were actually a thing until the 1800 or 1900. It would be insanely expensive and difficult to have someone make one for you before the industrial revolution. Plus the metalworking in modern belts would be very hard with midevil blacksmithing. And since a craftsman would have had to make it for you, the whole town would know what your up to. Just seams too infeasible to be a real thing back then. And it would have probably killed the girl too from deseas from hygiene and infection cuz they never bathed back then so...How would the belt work? The ones from the 1970's like this letter were probably tollyboy early models and didn't work well.

                    in the middle ages 13-16th century, it was something quite normal, i am talking about the time of the knights and not about the industrial revolution , it is clear that at that time the knights put on their women chastity belts while they were on the crusades

                        Angelina I'm pretty sure this is an urban legend. I looked it up and I can not find any reputable sources saying that this was true, and a few saying it is not true. Chastity back then was enforced by the church, not chastity belts. And the crusades laster years so how would that work for hygiene.

                                It doesn't. No belts existed at that time. Hard to do 'it' with all the staff a noble woman would have handy.

                                  The usual idea of a knight or a noble locking his wife in this is only a sort of fantasy(or urban legends,as @Natescage said).

                                      Angelina what if he figures out your in a belt yourself? Are you shy in real life, because it could seam weird and end up getting your dad in trouble or you embaressed. Just looking out for you.

Do you think it is more good or bad that you are in the belt? I know the frustration is bad and the thigh bands would be allways difficult to be in because of how hard it is to walk and move around. Maybe one day you can help another girl with her equipment.
