If a rich, powerful, older man tries to make it happen, and the public catches wind of him being at the center of it, I reckon the result will be similar to what is was to some of Jeffrey Epstein's friends. The narrative of a dirty old man supporting child abuse would quickly be spun and it his reputation would suffer greatly.
If anything, I could see a movement that at least present itself as grass roots, with young adults who voluntarily wear the belts as champions of it, wrapping it in a nice story to somewhat soften the ire of some vocal feminist groups, and emphasizing a wearer-in-charge mentality that has nothing to do with parents or partners holding the key. Celebrities and the likes would likely join in later, after the stuff has gone viral like one of those TikTok challenges.
