But I guess it is still a major improvement over the original plan to give you two days of freedom.

The lack of ownership transfer for the car is a bit of a bummer though. I mean, not formally transferring it may have some tax or insurance benefits, but them still being firm that they only let you use it at their pleasure seems like a bit of a cop-out.

              You can get drunk and not care before locking on the belt as well, so if they are already trusting you to obey their terms and not drink too much before you lock up...

              You could still say you left the keys at home so you don't do anything stupid after drinking. And then just wing it when your mum comes by for the monday unlock. "Told her I forgot something" or something along those lines.

                  That way you don't need to explain that your parents have it, but you need to not be seen without belt during that trip.

                        I initially understood the offer as being given a car. Instead of giving you something as a reward, it feels like you are giving them power to control you with access to the car. If you don't wear it this weekend will they never give you access to the car? If you do wear it this weekend could they not take away the privilege the next day (perhaps insisting that you start wearing it 24/7)?

                                It is very stressful that @Jen parents waited until just before to tell her she needed to bring her belt to vacation...

                                However theres not really a reason to say "My belt wont last for a week of hard partying" ☹️How bad is your vacation???? ❓️ I mean here in the middle of USA we have BURNINGMAN day with rituals to pagan gods and public group sex and NO plumbing or water Uhhhh....

                                  curious And getting back to your own situation. What about if you had been offered a car at age 16 (assuming driving at that age was legal in Germany like it is in the US or Australia)? Would it have been more tempting then compared to what it is now?

                                  first of all, in germany you are only allowed to drive a car from the age of 17 (and then only with an escort), and secondly, my answer at the time would have been no. i wasn't together with my girlfriend when i got the belt, and the prospect of being in the belt for years is not worth a car

                                  my car is also in my father's name because the insurance is cheaper. i think it is important that @Jen does not have to ask before she can use the car, but is free to use it at any time.

                                  that's right, demanding it a few days beforehand was not a very good action, it should have been discussed much sooner.

                                              But if I read your profile correctly, you have been in a belt for many years and actually been one of those with the strictest rules and full set of equipment.
                                              It occurs to me that you are actually pretty lucky with your father accepting your partner. More often than not, strictly conservative views also include a complete rejection of same sex relationships, and that would mean you still would be in full equipment without any end in sight.

                                                          that's true, but luckily my father is quite open about it, he knew before that i am bisexual. i think he wouldn't risk losing me because he knows that i love my girlfriend extremely. in the meantime she is almost like a second daughter to him, so it's all good. 🙂

                                                                If life permits I would encourage you to spend a few years living and working in an English speaking country.
                                                                Subtle meanings of a language are best learned that way. But that is no criticism, for having learned only in school you are doing really well.
