I think more or less the same. I think that if it were legal, initially a majority percentage of society would wear a chastity belt for their girls.

Ines The problem with such a law is that it hands control of adults over to other adults, and I’m not sure that’s something we really want happening. It formalizes a group of second-class citizens who are dependent on their keyholders. What about women who would want to opt out of the system, but their legal keyholders want them to stay in the belt? What would the the priority order of keyholders if they had no living parents? Would women be permitted to keyhold or would it be strictly about men controlling women? And would single men be subject to being locked up?

Without a doubt, it is something that I personally do not think is good, or not exactly so.
About those girls who do not want to, but their keyholders do, it is clear that they would have the law against them.
Although I think that, at least in a very substantial part, it could be successful because I think that many fathers and husbands would take advantage of that.
Currently, chastity only works because it is voluntary, I don't believe the horror stories, but in that scenario, without consequences, I would probably have to start believing many scary stories. If we girls lose the protection of willpower, we are lost.

I do agree with you there. America’s conservative side, which numbers over a hundred million people, is obsessed with controlling women, preventing masturbation, and enforcing virginity. I suspect that the main reason we don’t see widespread interest in chastity on that side of things is that they thinks belts are either a myth or big unwieldy medieval chunks of metal.

I will confess it’s an interesting social simulation experiment for the reasons you mention. How many would do it out of social pressure? Probably a lot. How many adult women would barely be on speaking terms with their families over belting? Also a lot. But then, how many women would have to stay in contact with family members they hated because they hold the keys? I have met a lot of older, very traditional parents who would be thrilled to maintain that level of control over their adult single or divorced daughters, and would be very pleased to know that their husbands had chastity rights.

It might be used as a loophole by two friends. I guess if the law says chastity belts can be forced then gay marriage would be banned.

Jen I think you’d see a LOT of “marriages of convenience” between friends to escape the belt. But even then, women would be giving a lot of trust to their friend that he wouldn’t take advantage of the power it gives him.

American culture gives men way too much power over sexuality already. I’d dress what would happen if men and parents — the literal essence of the patriarchy — had such legal control over all women.

Jen the sad thing is, it would be worth it to some of them. My mom knew that her insistence on deeply traditional anti-masturbation Catholic beliefs drove a wedge between us until the day she died. She didn’t care. She considered it a price she was willing to pay if it made me less likely to masturbate. She would have closed a belt on me in an instant and never looked back if it was an option, and she would have been content with the consequences.

Jen this is why I still have such a conflicted relationship with the church to this day, though it’s getting better. In talking to others, I’m learning that my mom’s version of traditional Catholicism was considered rather extreme. (She all but rejected Vatican II, for instance.)

Don't worry it isn't happening although there are some people who have used it as a therapy and it helped them avoid behaving badly with drug addicts and them maybe being in a terrible place!
So whenever it goes to that it will be therapy not prisons like women have now.
