                      Of course; even if you decide to ignore the legal and cultural shifts that those scenarios require, there are practical issues that are even harder to overcome - every person in a country must be able to adapt to long-term wear of the "have the key out of reach" kind, probably within quite the limited time frame as well. And for the ladies, a full belt with all the struggles that come with an unyielding pair of steel underpants is pretty much the bare minimum - unlike us boys, you do not have any bulky external genitalia you could attach a cage to. Which makes the idea of nobody in that fictional culture being physically unable to comply with the law/tradition a bit challenging to say the least.

                                              Probably not going to involve dropping your bottoms in broad daylight to check for fit though, so... uh... I do not know - electronic tagging perhaps? Little RFID tags in the chastity belts (and authorized keys, and unlock licenses) so anyone passing within close proximity of a checkpoint can be scanned to ensure they are wearing the belt and leaving their key behind if they do not have a license with them.

And of course, withdrawal can be a good treatment for addiction, but it depends on the person. If someone responds badly to withdrawal, professional help may be advisable.

                                                                            I feel that applies to most stories about legally mandated chastity - sooner or later you run into issues that would be really awkward in reality. Bringing some form of RFID tags into it to avoid regular random strip searches everywhere was an attempt to make it somewhat more palatable at least. But who knows, maybe some people are into the more hands-on option.

In all the time I have been driving, I have only ever been asked for my license at car rental shops, and at my job so they know if I can borrow a company car should I need it. Now, a world where everyone was expected to at least give it a try and a significant amount of the population deciding it was not as bad as they feared? Would love to see that, but while society-wide chastity is an interesting subject to fantasize over, all the little stumbling blocks that come with the reality of chastity enforcement just make it feel like somehow not making that scenario a hell on earth would be impractically difficult.
