of course, i did that with my father, especially at the beginning, i never got the belt off, but he was never mad that i woke him up

Absolutely yes, never hesitate if you are uncomfortable or need help.
But again 5AM before a workday to hear you have been fighting your belt when you should be sleeping isn't very nice.
