Avery Cops seemed to take a relaxed view, busting men who tried to set up as pimps but not these women who had nothing except their bodies.
That is actually how it works in most of Europe - in some places, like Germany, prostitution is legal but pimping most definitely is not. On others, for example Sweden, there are laws against prostitution, but they criminalize then johns, not the hookers. Because the primary reason for banning prostitution is how vulnerable prostitutes are to abuse, and it is hard to call a law just when it punishes the victims.
Speaking of bodies though, why is it that sex work is commonly referred to as "selling one's body", but back-breaking labor and hazardous jobs are not?
