Are you asking about everyday situations or giving up wearing a belt? Usually, when I have a legitimate need (doctor, internship, swimming pool, period), my mom takes my belt off without discussion. I can give up the belt at any time, and I don't think Mom will object strongly, but then she will never again hold the key.
