Germans tend to be very direct and hierarchical.

Yes, in Germany Yes means yes, No means no and I don't care means I don't care and not much else At least in the northern part. German is definitely more direct then most other languages but it's not meant rude. I often feel that polite speaking is dishonest, like if you don't want to meet next weekend just say "no" instead of "great idea, let's see if we can make it" if you already know you will not meet.

What a crazy discussion. Gay people don't harm anyone. Why shouldn't everyone do whatever he/she likes with whomever he/she likes until they are adults or (almost) the same age and it is consensual. It's not an illness but natural and they don't "infect normal people with gayness". This is just stupid. Nobody, including kid's becomes gay from seeing or beeing with gays, not even with father and father or mother and mother.

Why not let anyone do, think and feel whatever he/she prefers until it doesn't harm you. If you don't like to see it, look in another direction.

In Austria there exists a word called Nein and i heard it a lot during my last trip to austria.

that's true, but i have used a different tactic so far. if i thought someone was a troll, i ignore him/her, which saves a lot of time and nerves.
