I see it as a common relationship.
On the other hand in many relationship both do not masturbate. If they are happy with their sex it is not necessary.

And I assure you I am not trying to judge, just understand. My experience is when I have a lover I am more likely to masturbate because I'm horny for him all the time. Perhaps in a BDSM style dom-sub relationship. The couple agree to be together with the dom having complete control over the sub, including locking her in a belt even though neither plans to stray from the relationship. It is just a thing they do that attracts them both.
